Gender representation in advertising: blog tasks
Create a new blogpost called 'Gender representation in advertising'.
1) Find three adverts featuring women that are from the 1950s or 1960s. Save the images to your Media folder as jpegs and then import them into your blog post. Hint: You may wish to look at car, perfume or cleaning products but can use any product you wish.
2) Find three adverts featuring women that are from post-2000. Save the images to your Media folder as jpegs and then import them into your blog post.
3) What stereotypes of women can you find in the 1950s and 1960s adverts? Give specific examples.
Some stereotypes you find are that women are seen as inferior to men and they should be doing all cooking and cleaning in the household (housewife). These are made and put into adverts to advertise a product but by putting down girls or making it a joke.
4) What stereotypes of women can you find in the post-2000s adverts? Give specific examples.
Women are still inferior to men and often sexualised. Some example so them being made powerless and less than men are adverts that say women cant drive or do work and they are always focused on domestic work and that being cleaning for a example.
5) How do your chosen adverts suggest representations of gender have changed over the last 60 years?
Back in the day, majority of the adverts were focused on woman being put down and even though its still like that now you will see men doing some woman roles like men cooking in adverts which contradict how men should be portrayed. Now i also think women i adverts are sexualised more than back then even though the stereotypes for them being a housewife and doing things like that have decreased the sexual adverts are defiantly more.
